Aidan Moffat announces Where You're Meant To Be: A Scottish musical road trip

Article by News Team | 12 Feb 2014

Aidan Moffat's new project will see him collaborating with filmmaker Paul Fegan, the man behind award-winning short documentary Pouters. In April and May, Fegan will follow Moffat on a tour of the whole of Scotland playing gigs, collaborating, and meeting people from all walks of life in an attempt to capture the spirit and the history of Scotland's rich storytelling traditions, its folk music, some of its most resonant cultural places, and most importantly, its folk. The film they make, entitled Where You're Meant To Be, will be part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Cultural Programme, and will premiere after the close of the games.

Perhaps the most significant aspect of the film project is the series of gigs that Moffat has planned throughout Scotland to capture material for the film – these gigs are all free, but ticketed, with the tickets available from today via Aidan Moffat's site. The likelihood is that they will disappear fast - so for the chance to be in the crowd during these historic and momentous recordings, go and book yourself a ticket here. The dates and locations of the gigs are listed below.

According to a press release, the shows "will be loosely based around traditional ceilidh gatherings, with poems recited, tales recounted, songs sung and carousal had." Moffat, backed by a band that includes James Graham of The Twilight Sad, Bdy_Prts' Jenny Reeve, and Stevie Jones, will be collaborating and performing alongside guests such as Wounded Knee, 'bothy balladeers' Geordie Murison and Joe Aitken, and folk singer Sheila Stewart.
