BILL MURRAY'S REDDIT TAKEOVER
In one of Reddit's regular 'Ask me Anything' Q&A sessions, Bill Murray gave fans the straight dope about the highs and lows of his movie career. Giving revealing answers to questions about everything from Lost In Translation (he claims he can't remember what it was he whispered in Scarlett Johansson's ear at the film's climax) to Garfield, the celebrated comic actor comes across as grounded, warm, and – as could be expected – absolutely hilarious.

Perhaps the funniest answer came in his description of the process of working on the Garfield movies. "I kind of wanted to do a cartoon movie," says Murray. "I had looked at the script, and it said 'Joel Cohen' on it... I wasn't thinking clearly, but it was spelled 'Cohen,' not 'Coen.' I love the Coen brothers' movies. I think that Joel Cohen is a wonderful comic mind. So I didn't really bother to finish the script; I just said: 'He's great, I'll do it.'" Murray goes on to reveal how hard he worked to get the script up to scratch – a thankless task, as the movie had already been shot in its entirety. "It was sort of like Fantastic Mr Fox without the joy or the fun," he comments. Murray goes on to describe working on Garfield 2: "The second one was beyond rescue, there were too many crazy people involved with it."

Murray also holds forth on marijuana laws ("These are ancient remedies, alcohol and smoking, and they only started passing laws against them 100 years ago..."), sings Happy Birthday to a fan, laments the neglected critical reputation of Groundhog Day ("To me it was no question the greatest script of the year..."), and names Broken Flowers his favourite of his own films ("When it was done, I thought: 'This movie is so good, I should stop.' ... It's a film that's completely realised, and beautiful..."). Read the Q&A in full over at Reddit.

THE RUMOUR MILL: BOND 24 & 25, STAR WARS SCRIPT FINISHED, MARK RUFFALO TALKS THE HULK, & MORE
A round-up of the rumours currently setting the cinematic section of the internet ablaze – this week, Skyfall scribe John Logan let slip some details about the plans he and director Sam Mendes have been discussing for the as-yet-untitled 24th Bond movie, and its mooted sequel. "My goal is to write a great movie that's appropriate, to build on what we did on Skyfall, but make it its own unique animal," Logan told IGN.

"The themes, ideas and the characters from Skyfall can obviously continue on, because it is a franchise, and it is an ongoing story. So I think there's resonance from Skyfall in the new movie... I grew up on the Bond movies, the first one I saw was Diamonds are Forever when I was a kid. I just loved them to pieces. I love all the elements, from the books – mostly from the novels. Going back to Ian Fleming is where I started with Skyfall – and there's certainly elements of the movies and the novels that we brought into the new movie." Mendes will also be returning as director for number 24.

Here's the latest Star Wars rumour – director J.J. Abrams says that the script for Episode VII is complete, and that final casting has commenced. "We’re working really hard," says Abrams, "and we’ve got our script and we’re in deep prep. Full steam ahead, y’know." Abrams also confirmed to The Wrap that Breaking Bad actor Jesse Plemons was in line for a role in the new film.

Over in the Marvel corner of the ongoing superhero franchise wars, this week saw Avengers star Mark Ruffalo discuss his ideas for a new standalone movie featuring the Hulk. Total Film reports that Ruffalo opened up about the potential for a new Hulk movie while discussing his role in the eco-themed Infinitely Polar Bear at Sundance: "As artists we have an ability to reach a lot of people in a deep way, and we have a responsibility," he said. "What we have to do as storytellers is to take science and make it relatable. I think we have to tell the story of the positive and what we're going to try to do. Give them alternatives but don't make it a polemic."

Asked if these kind of eco-aware themes would have any bearing on his role as the Hulk, Ruffalo commented: "The fact that all these doomsday and end-of-times movies are coming out is because we're actually working that out in the culture...  I'm in The Avengers, but if you took my screentime it would come to about ten minutes... so my input's kind of limited on that. But if we get to a standalone Hulk movie, I'll have a much better chance to do that. I'm just learning now how to find my voice and bring it into the studio world."

Meanwhile, over in the DC corner of the franchise wars, The Wrap confirmed this week that the Ben Affleck-starring, Zack Snyder-helmed Batman vs. Superman will now be delayed until 2016, putting it into direct competition with Marvel's untitled 'Phase 3' project, which will follow on from Avengers: Age of Ultron. The delay will "allow the filmmakers time to realise fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story," according to a source at Warner Bros.

TRAILER: THE QUIET ONES
The new film from the revived Hammer Horror studio, 70s-set supernatural thriller The Quiet Ones, stars Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Olivia Cooke and Jared Harris as students who attempt to engineer poltergeist phenomenon. As you can probably guess, it doesn't quite work out how they expected...
