EXCLUSIVE! LISTEN TO A NEW TRACK BY THE TWILIGHT SAD
The Twilight Sad are one of the bands who made 2012 really special for us here at The Skinny. Their stark, beautiful third album No One Can Ever Know was one of our highlights of the year, and the accompanying remix EP was also top-notch, with remixes from the likes of Com Truise, Liars and JD Twitch of Optimo. Today, the band have kindly given us an exclusive stream of a never-before-heard track, Idiots. Guitarist Andy MacFarlane told us:

"Idiots is a song we've had half written for a while now, and when we decided to do a Tour EP with alternate versions of some of the songs from No One Can Ever Know, we thought it was a good idea to add in something no one would have heard before. The idea was to make a really trashy sounding, bedroom recording, like all our early demos. In turn, we thought it was fitting to hand-make, stamp and number all the sleeves, also like our early packaging. It's not necessarily an indication of where we're going next with our music, it's more about offering people who come to the shows a homemade, limited release that's never going to be available again once they're sold out."

The Twilight Sad play The Barrowlands on 15 Dec, with Holy Mountain and We Were Promised Jetpacks.

SEARCH TO FIND THE NEXT PROFESSOR BRIAN COX!
FameLab have been searching for the next Professor Brian Cox - someone who can communicate scientific ideas to a lay audience in an entertaining, funny and engaging way. This Saturday, at The Stand in Edinburgh, the final of their search will take place, as eight budding scientists and comedians battle it out to decide who's the best. Tickets are just five pounds.

RARE TERRY CALLIER & MASSIVE ATTACK SESSION REVEALED
In 2005, Massive Attack recorded a session with Chicago soul legend Terry Callier, who sadly passed away last month. Produced and arranged by Robert '3D' Del Naja and engineer Euan Dickson, the deep, soulful recordings feature Callier's unique voice and minimal instrumentation. The effect created is similar to the brooding, blues-led atmospherics of Gil Scott-Heron's I'm New Here - the focus is all on Callier's voice, as he tells tales of "rollin' down Highway 61" and talking with John Lee Hooker, over strings, guitar and synthesisier. Also included are out-takes, mis-steps and banter from Callier, which really give a sense of his warmth and wisdom as an artist. The session has been collated into a 'mixtape' by Massive Atttack, and can currently be streamed on their Soundcloud.

NEW VIDEO FROM FLYING LOTUS, STARRING ELIJAH WOOD
Until The Quiet Comes was the fourth studio album from Flying Lotus, released to critical acclaim earlier in 2012 (we reviewed it back in September). With psychedelic pop, spiritual jazz and African percussion playing all playing an influential role in the production, the album is a complex but understated musical journey. Today, FlyLo unleashed the new single from ...Quiet, Tiny Tortures, featuring some incredible Akira-referencing special effects, and a central performance from the original Hobbit, Elijah Wood. Watch it below.

TONIGHT! BRING YOUR OWN BEAMER
Tonight at Glasgow's Glue Factory, a very special art event is taking place - Bring Your Own Beamer is the Glasgow leg of an international arts movement that seeks to unite visual artists and encourage creativity, by hosting a huge number of creators in warehouses spaces, each with their own projector (or 'beamer'). "BYOB is a celebration of the new world we live in and a glimpse of what computing could look like in the future," say the event's organisers. "Today the internet is confined to screens, tomorrow information will surround us, composing oursurfaces, defining our spaces, enmeshing itself with the ether. A moving image is never an object, and when it is coupled with the increased flexibility of portable projection, the realm of experience quickly expands." With a huge range of Scottish artists involved inj tonight's installation, it will be an opportunity to witness first-hand some innovative uses of digital projectors, and get a small taste of what the art and technology of the future might resemble. There's an after-party too, with drinking and dancing 'til late, with sets from the likes of Optimo's JG Wilkes. The event runs from 9pm - 2am. Details of the event can be found here.
