Bat for Lashes – The Haunted Man
The biggest difference between The Haunted Man and 2009's Two Suns is in the presentation – gone are the intricate, ornate, quasi-mystical visual trappings of that album's cover, along with Natasha Khan's glamourpuss alter-ego Pearl, and much of the spectral, reverb-drenched vocal effects used on Two Suns and its predecessor Fur and Gold.
Instead, Khan presents herself and her voice with a raw, stripped-down aesthetic, bringing her melancholic, ghostly piano ballads into the realm of the torch song. When it works, as on the dramatic opener Lillies, with its refrain of 'Thank God I'm alive,' the effect is life-affirming and dramatic – lending Khan's delivery the power-ballad dynamics of Kate Bush or Tori Amos. The occasional misfire aside – take the insipid, predictable Laura; one of the few tracks which feels like filler – this is a well-written, superbly-composed collection of modern pop music, and a natural evolution of Khan's palette.

Report to moderatorAmbassador Armchair, unless you're a music journalist you shouldn't have even heard it to be able to complain.
Also, this reads like a balanced review to me. Can't say it discouraged me from forming my own opinion though. Why should it?

Report to moderatorI felt like 'Laura' was a filler too, but after a few weeks, the song grew on me, then I realized that it's good like old wine.

Report to moderatorIs this reviewer on drugs? Laura a filler, it's one of the best songs of the year.

Report to moderatorYeah, though I'd more or less agree with the review as a whole, calling Laura a filler track makes no sense.
You can say you don't like it, sure, but calling the *lead single* a filler-track is stupid: it can't be a filler (a track just to make up the running time on the album) AND be the album's calling card, the first track that many will hear before buying the album.
