Stealing Sheep – Into the Diamond Sun

If you've heard Stealing Sheep's single Shut Eye, you'd be forgiven for writing them off as an all-girl Fleet Foxes tribute act. Nothing wrong with that, but you could choose any of the other tracks on their debut and come away with a completely different impression. White Lies? A marching beat with a Daft Punk bassline, and Tangled Up In Stars sounds like Puppet on a String wrestling itself into submission.
Slotting nicely next to recent debut efforts by Django Django and Alt-J, Into the Diamond Sun is a varied grab bag of influences and sounds, but it all holds together because these three Scouse girls have such a keen ear for melody. The near-constant three-part harmonies are sweetly sung and intricately constructed, but that'd all be for naught if they weren't so damn tuneful. The weirdness intrigues and beguiles, but it's the hooks that keep bringing this listener back.

Add a comment »Great album by a great group! You can still buy their limited edition EP ‘I Am The Rain’ on 7” on the Idle Fret website: http://www.idlefret.com none of the 4 tracks are on the album and they usually close their show with the lead track. It’s brilliant!
