Hollywood Car Chases Just Got... Safer

Ever wish your life was more like an action movie? Of course you don’t. Think about it: it would be exhausting, not to mention life-threatening. But leaving aside all the broken bones and grazed elbows you’d sustain, consider the collateral damage: you’d be forever replacing smashed windshields, torn off wing mirrors and blown out tires. And what about your car’s paintwork? You’re talking a paint job every few months.

Volkswagen have the right idea: their cars are made for real life. Check out the videos below that imagine the Hollywood action movie as a much safer place.

*Update* Video Three: Chase – Anti Skidding Technology

Check out the third video from Volkswagen that shows action movies would be a whole lot less dangerous if these German automobiles were Hollywood’s vehicles of choice, what with their anti-skidding technology, abs brakes, braking system, and electronic stabilisation control.

*Update* Video two: Explosion

Check out the second video from Volkswagen that shows action movies would be a whole lot less dangerous if these German automobiles were Hollywood’s vehicles of choice.

Video one: Bus

Volkswagen have the right idea: their cars are made for real life. Take the video above (the first in a series of three, which we'll be revealing below over the coming weeks). It’s directed by Paul WS Anderson – a man who knows a thing or two about action movies (Death Race, Resident Evil) – and gives us a very familiar scenario. A speeding bus filled with innocent bystanders is under the control of two escaped convicts. Two plainclothes police officers are in hot pursuit. One of the cops climbs out of the sunroof and on to the bonnet, ready to jump from the car to the back of the bus when the two vehicles get close enough. But this isn’t a Bruce Willis film, it’s real life. And the car isn’t a stunt-vehicle, it’s a Volkswagen. Watch the video above to see how the clichéd setup plays out in a surprising and non-death defying way.
