The Skinny Northwest Launch

So, you're launching a new monthly arts and culture magazine in the Northwest of England. How best to go about it? A small soirée with wine and nibbles complete with speechifying and polite conversation? Sure, that would've been nice, but we went a slightly different route. To mark the first edition of The Skinny Northwest we crammed 400-plus friends and well-wishers into a basement bar in the Northern Quarter for a cinnamon whisky-fuelled knees up. It all kicked off at tea-time on a crisp spring day in Manchester, but our four DJs (Mullet Bitch, DJ Patience, John Loveless and Auntie Flo) seemed to be working on Tokyo time, delivering feverish sets fit for 4am. At the close we spilled out on to Dale Street, dazed and confused, just as the rest of Manchester was gearing up for Friday night.

We’d like to thank everyone who made it along, welcomed us to the area and made it such a fun party.

Big thanks should also go to Hi Spirits and Rekorderlig for providing the booze, Bear Nibbles, whose Vitamin C-filled Urban Fruit proved the perfect hangover cure on Saturday morning for those who picked up their customised Skinny tote (cheers Loomland), 2022NQ for the great venue and ace doorman Vinny. We’ll be doing it all again when we have our Liverpool launch in June – hope you can join us.

In the meantime, check out the party photos (by Simon Bray) below:
