Top Ten Events 12-19 Apr: Graham Coxon, Bass Face + Green Door Weekender
PICKS O' THE WEEK
Fri 13 Apr, 8.30pm, £7.50 (£5.50) here
In a week where the ultimate half-human, half-robot supercop is brought out for an airing there was only ever really going to be one choice for pick of the week, right? As part of their series of film screenings questioning what it means to be human (read our full programme preview here), Edinburgh International Science Festival dust off RoboCop for a special showing, which will feature a post-screen talk with writer Justina Robson discussing the arising themes of resurrection and the unnatural. With a RoboCop reboot due in 2013, a reaquaintance with the original seems very much in order. Watch the trailer: here.
Secret location, Edinburgh
The overly-indulgent tea party action again comes care of Queen of Tarts, who host a weekender of parties in their secret parlour location. The menu looks as dribble-worthy as ever, kicking off with rhubarb fizz (picked fresh from the hostess' Granny's garden, no less) and feta, pea and mint parcels, followed by a multi-course selection of sweet and savoury treats that include spring broth, beetroot and creme fraiche quiche, lemon sorbet, polenta cake with grapefruit drizzle, and pistachio and honey nougat. View the full menu here (booking details at the bottom of that page).
The Old Hairdressers, Glasgow
Fri 13 & Sat 14 Apr, 8pm, £3 (£5 weekend) on the door
Glasgow's Green Door Studios host a weekend's worth of fine musical fare down The Old Hairdressers, with 1990s heading up Friday night's proceedings, alongside Post, Casual Sex, and Asian Babes, before Jacob Yates and The Pearly Gate Lockpickers (pictured), The Rosy Crucifixion, Black Jash, and Future Glue bring the ruckus on Saturday. There will also be a selection of film screenings from Gregor Johnstone. And it's just a fiver for the lot. We leave you with a 1990s classic from yesteryear: See You At The Lights.
Electric Circus, Edinburgh
Thu 19 Mar, 7pm, £7 here
Having missed our March dose of Vic Galloway's showcase night while the music-loving man was away at SXSW Festival, the man himself returns for his monthly slot at Electric Circus – for which he's gone slightly off tangent and pulled together an all-hip-hop selection of Scottish acts for your aural delectation. Heading up the bill is Great Ezcape's visionary wordsmith Profisee (pictured), who'll be launching his new album live on the night, alongside Madhat McGore, and Silvertongue.
Sierra Metro, Edinburgh
Sat 14 Apr, 7.30pm, £3 (donation)
As Sierra Metro gear up to bid au revoir to their current space in Granton at the end of May – after over three years of exhibition-hosting down there – they team up with their pals at Embassy Gallery to host one last night of mayhem at which y'all can say your final goodbyes, with the night also helping raise funds for future projects from both galleries. For the night they'll have a raggle-taggle schedule of bands (to be revealed on the night) and DJs, alongside the obligatory drunken karaoke. City folk can jump on bus numbers 16, 47 and X47 to get there.
Skinny On Tour: Guess where The Skinny's publisher spotted this pair (pictured above) showing some love for the March issue of The Skinny and you will win yourself a booze-y prize courtesy of our chums at Vino Wines.
