LOCO DICE // DESOLAT, DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY Following their full to capacity 4th Birthday Party with the Italoboyz, Sensu kick off the Christmas Season in style with a 3 hour set from house and techno supremo Loco Dice. Loco Dice needs little introduction, one of the biggest DJ’s in the world and equally as consistent a producer. He regularly headlines festivals and clubs worldwide and residencies at Tribehouse, DC-10 and Cocoon have more than cemented this reputation.
Rewind back to the early 90’s when Loco Dice was a rapper and a Hip Hop DJ, playing support slots to Ice Cube, Jamiroquai and Snoop Dog and became a well known figure in his native German Hip Hop scene. As the scene exploded he became more disenchanted with what had happened to the music he loved. Explaining that “at that time, the late 90s, there was no inspiration.” This was the catalyst for Dice to move into house & techno a sound which he has embraced ever since. Constantly searching out for innovative music whether it be classic techno from Maurizio or Basic Channel, boompty house by DJ Sneak or something new from an up and coming label.
After gathering momentum through his respective residencies he began touring the world with mentor Timo Maas, who had heard Dice play at Tribehouse. Bookings got more and more consistent and Dice was asked to Support Carl Cox on his world tour. These opportunities in conjunction with a burgeoning studio partnership with Martin Buttrich have catapulted him to the top of the techno tree with releases on the World’s biggest labels, M_nus, Cadenza, Ovum, Four Twenty and Cocoon.
Last year Buttrich and Dice moved their entire studio set up in Dusseldorf all the way to New York to make the critically acclaimed debut album, ‘7 Dunham Place’. He cites the move to the Big Apple as pivotal in its creation. It is textbook Loco Dice right through – terrace grooves, expertly crafted drums and plenty of dubbed out flourishes providing an infectious listening experience.
This isn’t a big festival or huge superclub, it is 500 people in a basement club at 22 Jamiaca Street in Glasgow going nuts to one of the freshest sounding DJ’s in the world. Merry christmas!!!
