The West End expanse of quality restaurants has spread down to Partick with the recently opened Kail Yard Green as a welcome addition to the trail.
This restaurant fuses local seasonal produce with an imaginative, contemporary twist on Mediterranean flavours making it the elegant little sister to the brassy, bolshy Roastit Bubbly Jocks experience, with whom it shares head-chef Chris Bryers. Expect change in the wallet and burgeoning bellies as the reasonable prices and hearty portions will ensure you won't go away disappointed.

Bryers joins Seonaid Frame and Michael Porter in this new venture where they aim "to bring together relaxed friendly service with unpretentious high-quality food". Open Wednesday through to Sunday, with pre-theatre served from 5-6.30pm, you can expect to feel satisfied with 2 courses at a pinch for only £10.95 and 3 at £12.95. This set menu is altered daily with a broad choice of starters (delicious moules marinier and the sassy minestrone soup come recommended). Main courses include roast chicken supreme wrapped in serrano ham served in a wild mushroom jus, toulouse sausage with tomato, pepper and basil salsa, and a vegetarian option of sweet pea and broad bean risotto with parmesan cheese and basil pesto.
The a la carte menu is jam packed with inventive, honest dishes that will leave you merry.

Starters are all under a fiver and include salt and pepper squid in a light flour coating seasoned with crunchy salt and crushed peppercorns, Mediterranean duck confit and fresh Greek salad. Expect to pay in the region of £13 for an exciting dish such as the impressive and unique combination of fish and cheese with a grilled whole sea bream stuffed to the brim with feta cheese, sage, onion and garlic.

Whole pan seared scallops with pork belly is another creative dish, the super soft texture of the pork belly enhanced by the succulent scallops served in a sweet fish reduction (£15.95). Fresh pastas of the day (£8.95) range from the more traditional Carbonara and Bolognese through to a powerful dish of penne laden with fresh mussels, whole scallops and flakes of smoked haddock in a crab and tomato sauce, all served in massive bowls.
All mains are completed with sweet roasted carrots, crunchy fresh vegetables and potatoes.

The desserts provide the final indulgence with passion fruit iced parfait (£4.50) or tiramisu on a base of amaretto biscuits (£4.25). Undo that last buckle and enjoy the food at The Kail Yard Green: you can start the diet tomorrow.
