New venues in Glasgow

Marchtown
New to Strathbungo, Marchtown is part-wine shop, part-laidback bar, part events space. There's a food menu, based around sharing boards packed with delicious nibbles, and plans afoot for pop-ups and workshops of all sorts. Plenty to get involved with, and we approve of it all. 741 Pollokshaws Rd

Kaf Coffee
Kaf is a new speciality coffee shop in Partick with a focus on single origin espresso and in-house baking, with the actual business of making the coffee in the safe hands of a former staffer at Edinburgh espresso mecca Brew Lab. Also, Kaf is just a great name for a cafe, so hats off. 5 Hyndland St

Six by Nico
Six by Nico isn't your standard restaurant. For one thing, it's actually a series of restaurants – every six weeks, chef Nico Simeone will change up the six-course tasting menu, presenting a radically new concept each time. First up is 'The Chippie', but this is the kind of chip shop where the Scampi comes in the form of monkfish cheek with squid ink and herb emulsion. Fear not, the deep-fried Mars bar makes the transition to fine dining; no matter what changes you make, some things just shouldn't be messed with. 1132 Argyle St

The Smokin' Fox
Freshly revamped and directly opposite Glasgow Central train station, whether or not the branding of an anthropomorphic dog in a bonnet honking on a pipe will appeal is a matter of personal taste. However, once inside things take a pleasing turn with classic decor, a menu of reworked pub classics, and a broad drinks list mixing local craft beers with reliable mainstays. 6 Waterloo St

New Food & Drink in Edinburgh

The Bierhoose
In the former home of the Boundary Bar on Leith Walk stands a German-style beer house packed with exciting beers from across Europe. With an eighty-strong bottle list to choose from you won't be short of options, but draught-wise we can heartily recommend the Schofferhofer radler. Half German weissbeer, half grapefruit, it's essentially a summer's afternoon in a glass; try it, we assure you that you won't regret it. 379 Leith Walk

Twelve Triangles Kitchen Table
The latest outpost in the Twelve Triangles empire, this time 12T are focussing their energies around that aforementioned table, which is laden with a host of homemade pickles and condiments. Menu-wise, expect a host of intriguing brunch and lunch options; we're popping the bacon sandwich on activated charcoal sourdough at the top of our personal wishlist. 148 Duke St
