Zac Efron's Baywatch gets a goofy trailer

The first trailer for the big screen remake nobody wanted of the bizarrely popular 90s TV show Baywatch is here. Directed by Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon, the film adaptation following buff lifeguards as they patrol an LA beach looks to put a comic spin on the show.

Dwayne Johnson steps into David Hasselhoff's shoes as lead lifeguard Mitch Buchannon while a very orange-looking Zac Efron plays chiseled rookie Matt Brody. While the jokes in the trailer aren’t particularly funny, both Johnson and Efron have come into their own in recent years as comic actors – so that's kind of promissing, right?

There are a few nods to the original show (“Why does she always look like she’s running in slow mo?”) but otherwise it looks from the trailer like the production team is looking to create a 21 Jump Street-style buddy comedy. We’ll find out if they succeed when Baywatch is released 12 May by Paramount.
