To honour this year’s best movie acting, the New York Times have gathered together some of the actors who’ve given knockout performances in 2017 to star in short frightening films beautifully directed by Canadian-Italian director Floria Sigismondi.

Why frightening films, you ask? The genre was chosen to recognise what a great year it has been for horror. “From the surprise hit Get Out to the movie adaption of It to the campy Happy Death Day, scary movies had an unusual hold on the collective imagination in 2017,” says the New York Times. “Maybe it’s because reality was pretty horrifying, too. To punctuate the end of this hair-raising year, we asked ten actors who gave the best performances to play a series of eerie roles.”

You can see the full series over at the New York Times, but we’ve included some of our favourites below: Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) as a mannequin come to life in The Mannequin, Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) as a vampire preparing a macabre dinner party in The Cannibal, young Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project) as a demon child in... The Demon Child, and Nicole Kidman (The Beguiled) having a freakout while making some pancakes in The Possessed.
