Watch eerie first trailer for The Killing of a Sacred Deer

Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell star in the latest from Yórgos Lánthimos, the director of Dogtooth and The Lobster

With films like Dogtooth and The Lobster, Yórgos Lánthimos has proved himself one of the most original voices in cinema right now. The Greek filmmaker’s latest, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, looks similarly idiosyncratic and intense.

The psychological drama centres on a surgeon (played by Colin Farrell) who has a mysterious connection to a disturbed teenager (played by young Irish actor Barry Keoghan, most recently seen in Dunkirk). The ubiquitous Nicole Kidman also features as the surgeon's wife.

The creepy first trailer suggests Keoghan’s character insinuates himself within the surgeon’s family and means to cause them harm. Knowing Lánthimos, there are sure to be plenty of twists along the way.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer had its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival, where our reviewer, Joseph Walsh, said that the film “delivers high-tension, eerie and unsettling cinema: you’ll feel deeply uncomfortable while watching, but in a twistedly enjoyable way.”
