George Clooney has played an oaf in several of Joel and Ethan Coen’s films over the years (O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Burn After Reading, Hail, Caesar!), but for his latest collaboration he’s in the director’s chair, turning the brothers’ blackly comic script for Suburbicon into his sixth feature as director.

Set in the 1950s, the comedy-drama stars Matt Damon as a straight-laced suburban father who turns into a violent vigilante after a home invasion. The trailer suggest Suburbicon will trade in the same pitch black comedy that runs through much of the Coens’ work, and the cast looks pretty stellar.

Joining Damon – who’s been directed by Clooney in The Monuments Men, and starred alongside him in the Oceans movies – are Julianne Moore and Oscar Isaac and Josh Brolin. Suburbicon will receive its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival (kicking off today) where it will appear in competition, and is due for release in the UK on 24 Nov.
