FACT in Liverpool are inviting emerging local filmmakers to join them for Liverpool Film Night, the biggest celebration of new filmmaking talent in the region. The annual event, which has been running for over a decade, will take place at FACT on 23 Nov, offering filmmakers a chance to screen their work in front of an audience of short film fans and a panel of industry experts.

If you’ve a short film made within the last year and a half that you’d like to submit, now is the time. Get your entries in by 19 Oct to be considered for the shortlist. The final programme will be curated by actor and director Nick Moss, who’ll also act as the host and head judge on the night.

All genres and filmmakers working in all mediums are welcome. Your short film can be a drama, comedy, animation, documentary, experimental or horror – the only restriction is that it’s shorter than 15 minutes and made within the last 18 months.

"It’s vital that filmmakers are supported and encouraged, and importantly have their work seen by an audience,” says Moss, whose roles range from Jimmy McGovern’s BBC series Banished to Hollywood blockbusters like Hercules, and who recently picked up the prize for best short film at Manchester Film Festival for Break. “The opportunity Liverpool Film Night brings feels different to the usual process of festival applications, as the aim is to nurture and acknowledge local filmmakers and contribute to the idea of the grassroots community of filmmakers finding a voice. I am personally very excited to be part of that, having had first-hand experience of how that community can help to get work made.

“In my opinion, there is no better and more artistically thriving city than Liverpool right now,” he adds, ”so let’s celebrate the brilliance of local filmmaking talent.”
