If you were paying attention to the chatter coming out of this year’s Sundance you'll know that director David Lowery’s A Ghost Story was one of the films getting the Park City film festival all het up. The film sees Lowery reunite with Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck, the stars of his poetic crime drama Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, and concerns a woman (played by Mara) who seems to be haunted by her husband (Affleck) after his death. And as you can see from the trailer, this particular poltergeist prefers the old-school white bed sheet with holes for eyes approach to spooking.

Both actors have been on a bit of a roll since they last worked with Lowery. Mara has become one of American cinema’s most in-demand stars, with knockout turns in films like Carol, Lion and the upcoming Song to Song. Affleck, meanwhile, gave the performance of his career in Manchester by the Sea, for which he won the best actor Oscar.

In the meantime, Lowery entered the mainstream with his surprisingly soulful live action Disney film Pete’s Dragon. With A Ghost Story, it looks like he’s back to his dreamy, elliptical style of filmmaking, and by all accounts this could be one of the films of the year.
