2016 Oscar nominations announced

The nominations for the 2016 Academy Awards have been announced, with Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant among the nominees for best film.

The best film line-up is completed by Matt Damon drama The Martian, Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies, Lenny Abrahamson's Roomand Spotlight. Mad Max director George Miller is nominated in the Best Director category, alongside Abrahamson, Adam McKay for The Big Short, Alejandro G Inarritu for The Revenant and Tom McCarthy for Spotlight.

In the acting categories, Leonardo DiCaprio and Eddie Redmayne are nominated for their roles in The Revenant and The Danish Girl respectively, while Charlotte Rampling and Saoirse Ronan receive nominations for their lead roles in 45 Years and Brooklyn. Both Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara are nominated for Carol, Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet receive Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress nods for their roles in Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs, and Sylvester Stallone also picks up an Oscar nomination, with his role in Creed earning him recognition in the Best Supporting Actor category.

Elsewhere there are nominations for NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, Amy Winehouse documentary Amy and Star Wars: The Force Awakens – read the full list of nominations below. The 2016 Academy Awards will be awarded on 28 February.
