Date Movie

A truly unpleasant experience which you'll soon want to forget.

Film Review by Penny Bartlett | 17 Mar 2006
Film title: Date Movie
Director: Aaron Seltzer
Starring: Allison Hannigan

This film is downright dreadful. After the success of the 'Scary Movie' horror spoofs, 'Date Movie' is an attempt to parody the conventions of the romantic comedy. Unfortunately this is done with a complete lack of insight or intelligence, substituting these with constant tedious references and tired toilet humour. The plot follows the typical formula  Allison Hannigan plays a fat undesirable single girl who eventually becomes a thin desirable married girl, encountering the usual pitfalls of disapproving parents, undesirable suitors, and glamorous ex-girlfriends along the way. There is nothing remotely clever here  the jokes are at best unfunny, at worst vomit-inducing. It's a pity, as a parody of the cliches and conventions of the 'romcom' genre could have made an enjoyable movie, but this a truly unpleasant experience which you'll soon want to forget. This film is released on Friday Feb 24.
