Dylan Moran: Yeah Yeah DVD

Review | 18 Nov 2011

Dylan Moran has been quiet recently and it's nice to see him back, but something seems to have changed about everyone's favourite misanthrope. If you freezeframe and look carefully, you can just about see the tiniest flicker of a smile throughout this gig. Could it be that Dylan is finally ... happy?

Moran has been a grumpy old man since his early twenties, so in some ways his survival into his forties is something of a dream come true. He can now bitch about his favourite bugbears - mainly young people, especially his own children - with the wild abandon of middle-age. Perhaps this is the reason for the faint spring in his step.

The topics are generally quite run of the mill, but Moran can still bring every thought with a surreal crescendo (he complains about his wife snoring because she sounds like "two rhinos fucking in a vat of crisps"). He's added one truly surreal touch to this show by hiding bits of food around the stage, stopping in mid-rant so he can have a quick snack.

This doesn't have the same poetic urgency of Monster and Like, Totally... It's one of Moran's most casual shows, but it's also a welcome reminder that he is an irreplaceable comic talent.

Dylan Moran: Yeah Yeah, on DVD from 14 Nov, RRP £19.99
