If you want to get a sense of how strong Scottish music is at the minute, simply take a peek at the lineup of emerging Scottish acts heading to The Great Escape. Making their way to the Brighton and Hove music festival next month will be Bossy Love, Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5, Declan Welsh & The Decadent West, Happy Meals, LUCIA, Rascalton, The Ninth Wave, The Spook School and The Vegan Leather. In addition to their main festival performances, these bands will also take part in the festival’s annual Showcasing Scotland concerts.

“We’ve got incredible musical talent in Scotland, and it would be unfair to keep it just to ourselves,” said Alan Morrison, Head of Music at Creative Scotland. It's a pleasingly varied bunch making the journey, with indie pop, rock, R&B, hip-hop, electronica, and experimental psychedelia represented in the showcase. “There’s an impressive range of styles and genres on offer among these nine acts,” notes Morrison, “all of whom are ready to move up to the next level in the industry.”

The Showcasing Scotland concerts are hosted by BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway and will take place on Thursday 17 May at Horatio's Bar and Friday 18 May at One Church. In addition, on 17 May Creative Scotland and Born to be Wide host an international networking reception at the Old Ship Hotel.

Other Scottish talent heading to The Great Escape between 17 and 19 May include West Lothian singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi, Dunfermline indie pop quintet Dancing on Tables, raucous Clackmannanshire gang VIDA, melodic Edinburgh indie rockers Vistas and Glaswegian pop duo Love Sick, while Goat Girl, Nilüfer Yanya, Let's Eat Grandma, Japanese Breakfast, Superorganism, Tom Walker and Fanny Andersen are among the acts on the wider bill.
