Once again Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is teaming up with Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) to celebrate an iconic film with a knockout score. In 2015 it was Back to the Future. In 2016 it was E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. At the 71st edition of EIFF, another Steven Spielberg favourite gets the live score treatment: Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The legendary 1981 film was the first outing for Harrison Ford as the fearless archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones, who in the film is recruited by the U.S government to find the Ark of the Covenant before Hitler’s henchmen. The action-packed thriller was the biggest film at the box office in 1981, and has become a family favourite ever since, its iconic status helped no end by John Williams’ typically rousing score, which will be performed live by the RSNO to accompany the film on Saturday 24 June at the Usher Hall.

“Indiana Jones is undoubtedly one of cinema’s greatest heroes and it will be exciting to see this wonderful, rollercoaster adventure up on the big screen accompanied by the RSNO’s orchestra,” said Mark Adams, EIFF artistic director.

Running 21 Jun to 2 Jul, EIFF celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. Look out for more announcements about the festival in the coming months.
