Rock en Seine 2017: Five acts to see

Ahead of the return of the Parisian festival, we look at five of the acts to catch at this year's Rock en Seine festival

Barbagallo
The solo project of Tame Impala drummer and Tahiti 80 collaborator Julian Barbagallo, sunny blasts of throwback pop are the order of the day from the Toulouse native. Delightfully dreamy, shuffling sounds to kick off your festival – what could be better? Fri 25 Aug.

Franz Ferdinand
The Glasgwegian art-rock aces are back following their FFS collaboration with Sparks, featuring a retooled line-up which now features Julian 'Miaoux Miaoux' Corrie. There's no news yet on a new record from the band – although Trump-baiting new cut Demagogue impressed us last year – so you should see a set packed with the dance-along classics from Alex Kapranos and co's back catalogue. Fri 25 Aug.

Ibibio Sound Machine
Taking cues from 70s highlife and funk, 80s legends like Grace Jones and Talking Heads, and modern dance acts like LCD Soundsystem and Caribou, Ibibio Sound Machine are guaranteed party-starters. Expect a colourful, action-packed and eminently danceable show from the eight-piece. Sat 26 Aug.

Little Dragon
Over the years, the Gothenburg four-piece have made a name for themselves as musicians’ musicians, collaborating with everyone from Gorillaz to Big Boi and featuring on tracks from SBTRKT, DJ Shadow and Kaytranada. Catch them in their element, with a set sure to draw heavily on April's Season High album. Sat 26 Aug.

Vince Staples
Festival days can be long old slogs, and sometimes you need something to jolt you back to life. Well, you're in luck: Vince Staples is the live music equivalent of a defibrillator shock. The Long Beach MC's shows have long been incredibly energetic, high-octane experiences – Staples' abrasive, engaging and dance-inflected new material from Big Fish Theory should turn that energy up even further. Sat 26 Aug.
