Birthday Girls @ Pleasance Courtyard

High-energy Fringe favourites power into Pleasance with another hit show

Review by Polly Glynn | 09 Aug 2016

In a previous life, Birthday Girls were surely Duracell bunnies – an everlasting energy and enthusiasm certainly seems to radiate from this trio. Sh!t Hot Party Legends combines all the best bits of being at a club; possibly the best club, because this one has jokes and we get to sit down.

Rose Johnson and Camille Ucan play the life and soul of this party, and are hilariously undercut by the sardonic and, at times, naïve persona affected by Beattie Edmondson. The personal dynamic between them really shines through, and this helps us invest further in the sketches and structure of the show. Added to this, the writing is also stronger than before – look out for the babysitting sketch – and it's telling that one of the few lulls in laughs is partly due to a rowdy front-row bellend at this particular performance, rather than anything within their control.

Sh!t Hot Party Legends is packed with memorable characters, feel-good jokes, silliness and glitter. The rapturous applause they receive is well-deserved.

Birthday Girls: Sh!t Hot Party Legends, Pleasance Courtyard (Upstairs), 3-28 Aug, 9.45pm, £6-10
