Edinburgh Art Festival returns for its 14th edition this summer, with over 45 exhibitions set to take place in more than 35 venues. Among the highlights of this year's programme are exhibitions by internationally nenowned talents such as Brazilian artist Jac Leirner (Fruitmarket Gallery), an ambitious outdoor event from Pablo Bronstein (Jupiter Artland) and a selection of works by Ed Ruscha (Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art).

Scottish artists are also well represented, with solo presentations from the likes of Douglas Gordon and Graham Fagen (Scottish National Portrait Gallery), Stephen Sutcliffe (Talbot Rice Gallery) and Kate Davis, winner of the 2016 Margaret Tait Prize (Stills). There are also retrospectives of British Realist painting and landscape painters John Constable and William McTaggart, with the largest Jacobites exhibition in 70 years also planned.

A textile exhibition on the history and cultural identity of women also features in the programme, as well as an A-Z tour of the City Art Centre's collection in celebration of Edinburgh's 70th anniversary of Edinburgh as The Festival City and the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology. As usual the programme will additionally feature showcases of emerging Scottish artists across the city, including the Edinburgh College of Art's MA degree show, plus a variety of pop-up events and exhibitions.

Festival director Sorcha Carey said: "As Edinburgh celebrates 70 years of festival culture, our festival continues to bring together the city’s leading museums and galleries in a unique celebration of the very best of visual art.

"With exhibitions across the length and breadth of the city – the vast majority of which are free – Edinburgh Art Festival offers an unrivalled opportunity to immerse yourself in art drawn from across the world and the centuries, stretching from Caravaggio and Constable, by way of Turner Prize winners, to the most exciting recent graduates making art today."

Edinburgh Art Festival takes place 27 July-27 August 2017; full programme details can be found at edinburghartfestival.com.
