St Andrews Charity Fashion Show:Review

The professional website and the slick photo shoot set a certain standard for the St Andrews Charity Fashion Show. We weren't disappointed when we saw Guardbridge Paper Mill, it's industrial good looks the perfect setting, and cavernous interior large enough to house both a v-shaped catwalk and hundreds of fashion hungry students within its rusty beams.

Models strutted their stuff wearing only the best in big brands (appropriate to the microcosm that is St Andrews) with Nicole Farhi, Tommy Hilfiger and the notorious Jack Wills. However, the highlights were garments created by student designers Emma Sherlock, Casey McElroy and Valerie Klasan, including a playful dress with brightly coloured balloons in its folds. What unfortunately, burst the aforementioned balloon was the lack of organisation when it came to matching party-goers to their seats. At roughly £70 a ticket, a scenario whereby some punters were left with no table, no seat and therefore (gasp) no booze, doesn't quite cut it.

Underwear heavy collections included beautiful bondage type pieces in grey and black from Bordelle, which were unsurprisingly a big hit with the audience (mainly consisting of boys between the ages of 18 and 24), whose boisterous behaviour could knock you off your feet.

A huge amount of praise has to be given to those volunteer models who unflinchingly showed off the revealing outfits and gracefully negotiated the drink strewn catwalk. Impressively the event raised around 12,000 pounds for Watoto, a charity that cares for orphaned children in Uganda. Well done to all involved.
