Dazzle Jewellery Showcase @ Manchester Art Gallery

Feature by Amie Gee | 09 Jan 2014

The Dazzle jewellery showcase is being held at Manchester Art Gallery for the first time in its 32 year history. Running until 11 January, this exhibition is the perfect place to find world-renowned names and discover up and coming graduate talent. Featuring some of the best pieces in contemporary jewellery design, the Dazzle jewellery exhibition is the place to purchase unique gifts, or to treat yourself to some breathtaking pieces that you will find nowhere else (you've got some Christmas money left right?).

For seven weeks and counting, the Manchester Art Gallery has played host to this jewellery extravaganza, showing the work of over 60 designers from over 15 countries. Not only can you find jewellery collections but also a wide variety of metalwork, clocks, wall hangings, textiles and many more hand-crafted pieces of art - over 3000 unique hadmade pieces, direct from the makers.

Due to the larger exhibiting space available this year; Dazzle has invited a number of special designers to showcase their work. Kirsty Eaglesfield is a young silverware designer based in Edinburgh whose contemporary work focuses on the way objects are eroded by nature; her pieces include a variety of cutlery, bowls and boxes.

Deirdre Hawken specialises in couture headpieces fused with traditional techniques that have to be seen to be believed. Nuno is a world renowned textiles studio based in Tokyo, who have revolutionised the design of interior and fashion textiles by combining traditional practises with complex technology and finishing techniques. At the exhibition, Nuno will showcase a selection of their coveted scarf designs.

Last but certainly not least is Angela O’Kelly; a designer whose pieces fuse together jewellery, sculpture and textile mediums into one. She is inspired by different textures, materials and colours. Her ranges can be split into avant garde pieces of wearable sculptures, and more commercial jewellery pieces.

The Dazzle exhibition is freeto attend, and open from until 12 January. This exciting exhibition is the perfect place to pick up a few new year treats, and is a must-see for all jewellery fans.
