'Tis the season to be jolly and buy stuff. Does the idea of trudging down the high street among throngs of spent shoppers to acquire mass produced knick knacks fill you with dread? Not to fret. Pop-up shops are popping up all across Scotland in the run-up to Christmas. From high fashion knitwear to home made Christmas cards to festive hairdos, hundreds of artists and designers will make sure that this year, your presents will all be equally unique.

FAD Shop and Market
28 Nov-19 Dec (closed at weekends)
The South Block Studios will be host to FAD, an independent shop and designer market stocking work from up and coming Scottish fashion, art and design brands (think Kirsteen Stewart, Laura Spring, Pea Cooper amongst many others) And there’s coffee too!

3D/2D Craft Fairs
29-30 Nov and 13-14 Dec, £1.50 (£1.00)
When the FAD shop and market are shut but you still need original Christmas gifts, 3D/2D will come to your rescue with two Glasgow weekend craft, art and design fairs in the Royal Concert Hall.

Remarket Exhibition
29 Nov-20 Dec
Recoat and Saltmarket design will turn the RBS branch on Gordon Street into an exhibition space with works from Russell Dempster, Jennifer Argo, Euan McWhirter, Kirsty Whiten, Lucy MacLeod, Shona Guthrie, Fraser Gray and Little Dot Creations. Apart from marvelling at their creations, visitors can buy works of art and design.

Blow Salon
7, 14, 21 Dec
Purveyors of big hair, Blow on Finnieston Strip have all your festive needs covered. On 7 December, nail artists from Swoon and DIY Nails will join the hairsmiths of Blow, and on the 14th, Heenatastic will be there to cover you in temporary tattoos. Bebaroque, DIY Nails, Georgia Wiseman, Stella & Dot, Wonky Woolies and Dear Green Coffee are all joining on 21 December for a last-minute pre-Christmas pop-up show-down.

Tea Green Makers Market

Scotland Re:Designed realised something was missing in Ocean Terminal and decided to fill the void with a huge pop-up store. Limited Edition features 21 emerging luxury brands offering a range of clothing and interiors with items such as hand printed silk scarves, bespoke shoes and laser-cut jewellery by designers including Katie Lees, Helen Ruth, Obscure Couture and Prints of Paradise.

Knitwear designer Catherine MacGruer will be offering her fine wares in the Made from Scotland shop on Rose Street from the 27-29 November. For the occasion, she’s expanded her range of delectable merino blankets with a range of bold, graphic cushions, scarves and hot water bottles.

5-7 Dec
To make sure Rose Street won’t find itself in a slump after Catherine MacGruer has left, number 115-117 will see local creatives, including Edinburgh-based label Fiona Heather, offer their wares to the public on the 5, 6 and 7 December. Find the perfect hat, necklace, pillow or frock among the creative output of your fellow citizens.

Remarket Christmas Market
11-18 Dec
If you’ve had enough of overpriced mulled wine and hats that look like animals, try the alternative Chirstmas market organised by Saltmarket Designs and Recoat Designs as part of their Remarket programme. Their transformation of the RBS on St Andrews Square may leave the site’s essential activity of money grabbing unchanged, but from the 11-18 December you will receive local design in return.

Hillstreet Design Pop-up
12-18 Dec
The beautiful Hill Street Design House will host a pop-up sale from the 12-18 December. Resident designers Patience Jewellery, Karen Mabon and Maggie Mowbray millinery will be joined for the occasion by artists Judy R Clark, Hilary Grant, Christine Clark and Hatti Pattisson.

Tea Green Makers Market
7 Dec
Scores of designers will flock to the Malmaison boutique hotel on the waterfront for the first of Tea Green’s makers’ markets. Among the makers on show will be Kerrie ALDO jackets, Mitchell & Black textiles and numerous jewellery designers including Pretty Vexed and Lucie Hunter.
