Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show 2011

On 18 and 19 March, Edinburgh’s beautiful Mansfield Traquair venue will be transformed into a catwalk extravaganza for the annual Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show, sponsored by Citylets. The largest of its kind in Europe, the show is now in its tenth year, raising over £100,000 for charity in the past two years alone. This time, the theme of ‘(d)evolution’ is arguably the most exciting and, (if press previews are anything to go by) technically the most well executed of recent years. The theme aims to refocus the show on student creativity and Scottish talent. The charity of choice this year is Breakthrough Breast Cancer, following collaborations with Fashion Targets Breast Cancer UK (such as ECFS hosting the inaugural FTBC music event for Scotland).

The show itself will invite us all to ‘The Islands’, a theme that Creative Director Fergus Crook has already shown he can execute well in the preview photoshoots. Shot in rural Scottish locations, a variety of designers are used, charting the ‘evolution from
traditional to futuristic designs. The use of James Faulkner’s headpieces only adds to the juxtaposition of past and present, of nature and modern technique. The launch party on 2 March at the Caves is already shaping up to be a ‘must-attend’ event too!
