How Do I Get Up There?

Glasgow’s last surviving Victorian music hall, the Britannia Panopticon, gave an opportunity for comedy festival goers to travel back in time to the heyday of the music hall era with How Do I Get Up There?’s fundraiser show. Filled with Victorian memorabilia and faded posters of the bright young stars of yesteryear on the crumbling plaster, it was a magical and atmospheric venue for a show very much in the vaudeville tradition.
The three man group, (the fat one, the lanky one and the good looking one), fair blasted through a series of around thirty quickfire sketches in an hour long show, bringing to mind The Fast Show. In such a comedic onslaught it’s inevitable that the quality will be variable but the hits greatly outweighed the misses and their pace and enthusiasm didn’t leave any time for the audience to get bored. Some moments of rare genius hint that this could be a team to watch out for.
Coming across particularly strongly was Glasgow’s unique character and history. It’s easy to imagine the music hall performers of the past looking down from the heavens , happy with their successors.
