Planet Caramel launch hot-bed of comedy at Opium

A new character and sketch comedy night rolls into Edinburgh...

A new monthly comedy night opens at the Opium bar on Cowgate on Thursday 29 Oct, one of very few creating space for experimental sketch and character comedy artists.

These nights are aptly titled Hot-Bed and are the brainwave of promising Edinburgh sketch group Planet Caramel – the trio who, at the Fringe, blended surreal turns with free Tunnock's wafer bars. Moving on from confectionery, they are now gifting comedy fans with hand-picked guests each month.

What's more, the announced line-ups seem a positive indicator for the evenings to come. For instance, the premiere sees anarchaic double act Norris and Parker up from Manchester. The evening's other guests are Me3 Comedy, a brand new act performing live for the first time. Hot-Bed, then, promises to be one for comedy fans who like to watch performers dive in at the deep end.

Meanwhile, Freakaholics Anonymous guest in November and also look to be a good fit – at the 2014 Fringe they performed a show revolving around a kids' TV show from the future – as do Chutney Exhibition, who this year launched the intriguing Poets Against Humanity at Banshee Labyrinth. Furthermore, acts have already booked in for the New Year, such as the kooky duo Twins and the ever characterful philanthropist, author, historian, pimp and amateur vet known as Henry von Stifle

With all this planned even at these early stages, it's difficult to see what can stop these Planet Caramel nights becoming a staple ingredient on the Edinburgh comedy scene.
