The Skinny Comedy Spotlight returns at Greater Manchester Fringe

Feature by News Team | 01 Jun 2015

Danny Sutcliffe, Will Setchell and Jayne Edwards are among the comics lined up for our second comedy showcase, as part of this year’s Greater Manchester Fringe festival.

Alongside Sutcliffe, Setchell and Edwards on the line-up for the gig on 12 July – curated by our Comedy editor John Stansfield – are sketch duo Sam & Tom, Quippopotamus head honcho Jack Evans, Norris & Parker, and this month’s spotlight star Will Duggan. Each of them have featured in our comedy showcase in previous months; we've compiled a few of their finest moments from their spotlight interviews below.

Freddy Quinne, MC at our first showcase night last September, will once again be at the helm of the evening’s proceedings. Our debut comedy showcase, as part of the 2014 Liverpool Comedy Festival, featured a host of the Northwest’s top comedians with acts including Edinburgh Fringe favourites Gein’s Family Giftshop.

The Skinny Spotlight is at The Kings Arms, Salford on Sunday 12 July, doors at 7pm. Tickets are £5, via greatermanchesterfringe.co.uk. Join the event on Facebook.

In the spotlight:

Danny Sutcliffe on what he would be doing if he wasn't doing standup: "Crying in a call centre and getting pissed at lunchtime."

Jack Evans' best ever heckle: "Some deaf dude once passed me a note on stage that said ‘I’ve never heard comedy this bad.’ Not sure it works, but I like it."

Jayne Edwards on her influences: “1970s Bruce Lee-in-hell exploitation movie The Dragon Lives Again. Rhyl. Interviews with bodybuilders. Harper Lee. Talent shows. Failure. Our Lord.”

Will Setchell on the largest animal he could take on in a fight: "I don't believe in hurting animals. Mind you, if it smacktalked my mother I could certainly wail on a gibbon."

Sam & Tom on their Northwest favourites: "We really don’t see why you’d even have a ‘culture’ magazine for the NW. What do you review – collieries? Greggs? Pulp?"

Will Duggan on who he'd like to be haunted by: "Peter Cook. I reckon he’d work wonders for my career."
