Xplicit with Adam F & Subfocus @ The Venue, Edinburgh May 13

Newcomer Subfocus outshines the old hand

Article by Jonny Ogg | 15 Jun 2006
Relative to old hand Adam F, Subfocus is the new kid on the block when it comes to Drum and Bass. Xplicit saw the pair on the same bill for its penultimate event prior to their move to The Bongo Club. The night was nicely full with a healthy crowd but there was still room to shake your ass, or in some cases, jump around like full-on lunatics. Kicking off were residents Skye and E.N.O who provided slick openers before the headliners. Subfocus laid on a set full of his own tracks. Robust and full of bass, it was arguably the best set of the night. Scene veteran Adam F rolled out a very entertaining hour of beats and, although there were no massive surprises, there's no taking away from the fact that the man is a professional in his game. The fat night hosted by 'Low down dirty scoundrel' Tonn Piper and counterpart MC BZ was brought grudgingly to a close courtesy of the security who certainly didn't want to sanction the crowd's request for one more tune.
