LeToya - LeToya

This is bimbo hell and should be consigned to the flames.

Album title: LeToya
Artist: LeToya
Label: Capitol
Texan LeToya ain't no role model for our teenage girls. The ex-Destiny's Child singer has gone solo with a slickly produced album, good backing singers, and a selection of male rappers. The result? Twelve tracks that all sound the same. LeToya has a competent soul voice, yet somehow with no soul – her insincere delivery of inane, sickly lyrics ("wanna b witchu, torn between the 2") quickly becomes irritating as she trills up and down the scale endlessly. Apparently LeToya's career started with church gospel when, as a child; "The lady just gave me the mic one Sunday and I sang." Something similar seems to have happened here – the poor girl sounds so passive and bored. Even the rappers fail to elicit any sass from LeToya – her breathy delivery kills All Eyes on Me, wasting Paul Wall's promising opening. This is bimbo hell and should be consigned to the flames. Out now.
