Kevin Saunderson @ Club Michigan Vs. Jackhammer, The Venue, April 14

A good old Ableton workout of the classics

Article by Andrew Cooke | 16 May 2006
Kevin 'The Elevator' Saunderson has been around since the birth of techno. Unfortunately, tonight he was late so there was none of that promised DJ set. No bother though as he took the filled club on a journey from 1985 up to the present day, jumping from his commercial Inner City songs to the soulful Reese Project and darker E-dancer gear - a good old Ableton workout of the classics. Controlling the luminous skeletons dancing on the screens above him, Saunderson's World of Deep, Big Fun and the stammering Sims Good Life remix claimed the biggest shouts of the night. Stephen Brown took the direction deep and atmospheric upstairs, and below, residents Chris and Marc treated the crowd to speedy electro and tough 4/4, topped off by that 'Relentless' Weegie techno. A visionary night that embraced the past and the future of electronics. [Andrew Cooke]
