Its June release is perfectly timed for emerging as a Summer party favourite

It's difficult to imagine that a music director and A&R man for EMI would have trouble getting access to thousands and thousands of tracks to sample, and he didn't. Camillo Lara aka DJ Pata Pata has gathered over 30,000 vinyls to sample and absorb into 15 tracks that nod at enough styles to satisfy several generations at once. Pieces recorded in the 1920s sit alongside mambo, electro, Jamaican dub, funk-house, and that all important (and infectious) Latin vibe. Ok! and Jaja Pipi have a Daft Punk feel to them with chunky beats, laid-back trumpet stabs and looped vocals, and Dean Martin's Watch the Girls Go By is consumed and disseminated with a Mexican flavour on Mirando a las muchachas. Rather sickeningly for Scots natives, all the tracks come sun-drenched and ideally suited to warm weather, cheap beer, and a view of the sea. Its June release is perfectly timed for emerging as a Summer party favourite. [Alex Burden]
