The Arches Presents: Tiga

Article by Jodie Barnaby | 23 Nov 2010

Tiga may have started his career promoting raves in the hollows of Montreal’s underground club scene in the early 90’s, but he’s come a long way since then. Founder of the esteemed label Turbo Recordings, Tiga is without a doubt one of the most important contributors to the current electro/techno scene.

His remixes of Corey Hart’s 80s anthem Sunglasses at Night (2001) and Nelly’s (yes, the guy with the bandaid) Hot in Herre (2003) might lead you to believe he’s all gimmick and no heart . Tiga, however, keeps true to his own style with these mixes – infusing them with “sexual tension and edgy, narcotic control.” And to be quite honest, his version of Hot in Herre puts Mr. Bandaid-Face to shame.

Tiga will be pounding beats and spinning his way into the hearts of every club kid in Glasgow at the Arches on 5 Dec with supporting act Hey Today (Turbo)! Make sure to Youtube his version of Sunglasses at Night before the show – the video features an over-exposed and vibrant Amanda Lepore. Its’a creepy little piece of pop-art that is sure to put you in the right mood to dance the night away.
