Coldcut feat. Robert Owens, M'Pho Skeef & MC Juice Aleem + support @ Triptych, ABC, April 26th

Feature by Colin Chapman | 15 Jun 2006
Coldcut recently returned to the musical fray with the release of their 'Sound Mirrors album, so it seemed apt that they were given the opportunity to show they could still cut it at this year's Triptych.

Blurring the boundaries between DJ set, gig and live-visual art installation, Coldcut live sees Matt Black and Jonathan Moore take full advantage of their own DJ video manipulation software, to create eye-catching, spontaneous music videos, equally political as humourous, vigorously cut and blended in time to the music.

Touching on the many corners of dance; trip-hop to jungle, hip-hop to house, their own productions acted as the main ingredients, tracks from 'Sound Mirrors' given particular emphasis; Robert Owens taking the stage for slo-mo house anthem 'Walk A Mile In My Shoes', Mmpho Skeef displaying her vocals talents on 'Island Earth' and Juice Aleem acting as compere throughout. However, overall the event would probably have worked better as a club-night. [Colin Chapman]
