Spring's Season of Sound ends on a high with an appearance from one of Philadelphia's most famous musical exports, DJ Jazzy Jeff. Cutting his teeth at parties in the family basement since the tender age of 10, he later graduated to the block party circuit and as his reputation grew, was soon playing all over the city. In 1985, Jeff met long-term recording partner Will Smith at a house party and the pair formed a DJ and MC partnership, releasing their first single as DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince a year later. Over the next seven years they went on to record 5 albums, notching up 14 million sales and winning 2 Grammy and 3 American Music Awards. During this period Jeff also played Will's sidekick in the hugely popular TV series 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' and opened his 'Touch Of Jazz' production studios in Philadelphia. Here, the career of nu-soul sensation Jill Scott was launched, with Jeff working as executive producer on the recording of her double-platinum selling debut, 'Who Is Jill Scott?'. Jeff has continued to work with Will Smith, producing his solo albums, while also finding time to release 'The Magnificent', his own solo debut that showcases his DJing talents on both house and hip-hop mix compilations. "Technically he's one of the best hip hop DJ's in the world and virtually invented transformer scratching," says Season of Sound promoter Geoff M. "It's hard to ignore his influence on hip hop over the past twenty years." Expect a very special night of hip-hop and party-classics - not one to be missed! [Colin Chapman]
