House and Techno Round-Up

Feature by Andrew Cooke | 16 May 2006
Only a handful of nights are really eye-catching this month in the capital of vanishing clubs. Deepest India at Cabaret Voltaire blends deep house from Aberdeen's Funky Transport with desi funk from DJ Kunal. Be hungry for live vocalists, sax, sitar, dhol and free bhajis 'n' samosas. Rainer Truby is a man back for more Trouble. Marking his third appearance at the club, the residents just can't get enough of the wee man's jazzy tech-tunes. With the Venue closing next month, JakN present their final fling (for now...) with the Diverse Frequencies crew playing all things techno. Solescience will be a touch happier as they welcome Chicago's own Greens Keepers who will be playing live plus a DJ set from James Curd. Then at the end of the month get along to Nightstrike for Detroit techno and electro and Edinburgh's most ridiculous DJ booth.

Glasgow approaches the summer as strong as ever. A real highlight will be Brummie Sir Real (House of God) and the banging electro he will bring to Iridium. Emergency celebrate their second birthday at the Universal with Dutch guest Max 404 (Eskimo Recordings) playing a diverse house, garage and underground disco set. Local electro stars Percy X and Dirty Hospital combine for an evening of machine-funk at the Carnival Arts Centre. And yes the Germans are back; listen out for some static, squelches, bleeps and farts from Savas Pascalidis and Misc. (Sender) as they play at Mekanik's 1st birthday. Finally we are treated to a Kompakt label showcase as Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehimann bring their Le Petit Orb show to Scotland for the first time, plus debuts from both Jennifer Cardini and Jonas Bering.
