Melting Pot with Detroit Swindle @ The Admiral, Sat 28 Jan

Melting Pot is back for 2017, with a debut for none other than Amsterdam house/disco duo Detroit Swindle. Detroit Swindle was formed in 2011 by Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets, who bonded over a mutual love for Motown, hip-hop and early house music. The pair head up the Heist Recordings label and have also released music on renowned labels like Freerange, Future Classics, Dirt Crew (where they released their debut album Boxed Out), Tsuba, Classic Music Company, and Kaoz Theory.

They've also put some serious funk into notable remixes for Hercules and Love Affair, Chet Faker, Seven Davis Jr. and Romanthony. After a star turn at Edinburgh's Open Air FLY festival late last year, don't miss your chance to catch the lads in more initimate surrounds (and in the meantime, you can catch up on what they had to say to The Skinny here) (£12+bf).

David Barbarossa @ Distill, Sun 29 Jan

The very chill vibes of West End drinking den Distill are about to get even more groovy this Sunday, when Glaswegian DJ royalty purveyor David Barbarossa steps up to spin some end-of-the-weekend tunes. With a 10,000+ strong record collection at his disposal, you're in for some old favourites, rare gems, and everything in between.

I AM: Maribou State @ Sub Club, Tuesday 31 January

Say goodbye to the most depressing month of the year with a Tuesday night knees-up at Subbie. Maribou State will be making their Sub Club debut, after last stopping in Glasgow for a summery show at The Berkeley Suite in July 2016. With releases on Southern Fired Records and Ninja Tune, the London duo's style has rightly developed a serious reputation for quality. Expect smooth sounds, tranquil electronic beats, and an altogether spacey listening experience (£8+bf).

In Other News

Big news this week – the internationally acclaimed immersive party brand elrow have announced their upcoming Scottish debut. The all-day event will take place at Glasgow night-spot SWG3 on Saturday 18th March, featuring one of elrow’s best loved themes – Sambodromo de Brasil, aka a Brazilian jungle carnival.

Witness stilt-walking samba dancers, wild tropical beasts and lost explorers roam amidst the thick foliage and exotic jungle blossoms, with zany production, lively performers, bizarre props and excessive quantities of confetti. The bad news is the event sold out within two minutes of going onsale; the good news is, the promoters are trying to organise a second date to accommodate the huge demand – register your interest here
