The i AM presents Maribou State @ The Berkeley Suite, 16 July

While Chicago legend Derrick Carter commands the decks at Sub Club the same evening – details on that one over in the Zap! – an extended DJ set from the ever-elegant Maribou State makes for a sound alternative offering. Since forming in 2011, the duo from Hertfordshire have crafted a synth-driven ambient style all of their own, exemplified by last year's debut LP Portraits, an eclectic, predominately downtempo foray in hip-hop, soul, funk, and trip-hop beats. With summer vibes aplenty, this one is not to be missed!

Code with UVB @ La Cheetah Club, 16 July

The French DJ and producer UVB makes his Scottish debut at Le Cheetah this Saturday, in what should be an enticing blend of dark and driving techno. UVB, aka Sébastien Michel, first started producing electronic music back in 2009, before 2013 saw him concentrate on creating a unique techno set composed solely of his own productions, which he then played across Berlin's most noted clubs.

Since releasing the hugely successful debut What I've Learned EP on Bas Mooy's MORD imprint in 2014, UVB has firmly established himself as a techno DJ to watch. There's also support from CODE resident, Nick Morrow.

Project Pablo & Loose Joints DJs @ The Berkeley Suite, 17 July

If you've not yet given Project Pablo's Beaubien Dream EP a spin, shame on you. The three-track EP released last month is almost sure to transform Patrick Holland's little-known Project Pablo moniker into a new wave house triumph.

Holland continues to pick up more and more shows across Europe, and with good reason – the Canadian producer is renowned for sets full of hidden gems, from disco-influenced house to deeper and harder territory. Made up of bold, buoyant basslines, with a strong nod to the Chicago sound of the 80s and 90s, Project Pablo draws together a myriad of influences yet remains unique in his approach to modern house music – with tantalising results.

Festival Watch

There's now just two weeks to go until the Sensu Bank Holiday special, which stars Glaswegian stomper Denis Sulta. He's joined at the one-dayer by gun Bristol producer Eats Everything, who has been backed by everyone from Seth Troxler to Claude VonStroke and Justin Martin. Further support comes from Barry Price, Junior and Alan Belshaw, with the event kicking off at Glasgow's East End venue St Luke's before settiling into Sub Club for the post-11pm antics.

Further afield, the Sub Club Soundsystem weekender takes over Glasgow's Barras Art & Design Centre on 27 & 28 August. Tickets have nearly disappeared for this one, so act quick if you don't want to miss out on what will surely be killer sets from the likes of Tale Of Us, Ame, Mano Le Tough, Joy Orbinson b2b with Roman Flugel, and more.
