As always, we recommend you start your weekend with a session at Eastern Bloc Records: tonight they've got Manchester-based trumpeter and DJ Matthew Halsall (from 6pm, free), and on Saturday it's time to loosen yerself up ahead of the best Xmas do of the season: Wet Play's Drenchmas. Pre-Rinse exercises begin at 6 (also free, of course). 

Islam Chipsy & EEK  @ Islington Mill, 2 Dec

Make a night of it at the Mill with Islam Chipsy and his band EEK, a three-way force of nature from Cairo described by those who’ve been caught in the eye of their storm as one of the most exciting live propositions about. The partying continues through 'til 2. From 8pm, £10 

Wet Play's Drenchmas @ The White Hotel, Salford, 3 Dec

In their own words because it's pointless paraphrasing: 'Full Crew in Xmas spirit. Spandex has threatened to ‘Go Weird’. Ruffy is supercharging the VapeHS machine for maximum eyefuls. This is a RAVE BUNKER of the highest order, players; tailor made for a wet and wild soaking.' Just go, yeah? Pre-party at Eastern Bloc beforehand. From 11pm, £5 

Meat Free with Peter van Hoesen, Steffi, Virginia & Zenker Bros @ Mantra Warehouse, 3 Dec

The Meat Free lot round off 2016 with a big line-up in the kind of big atmos we've come to expect from Mantra Warehouse. Ilian Tape's almost flawless Zenker Bros are last on the list yet one of the highlights as far as we're concerned. Happy Christmas, lads. From 9pm, £20 

Treehouse presents Happa & Bruce @ 1 Primrose St, 3 Dec

Expect punishing, pixellating techno from young Leeds talent Happa with Hessle Audio/Livity Sound's Bruce in a warehouse setting that's well-suited to a Treehouse party (after a hiatus from Manchester, they've been putting on nights in Leeds and Sheffield with the likes of Mumdance, Madam X, Hodge and more – give 'em a warm welcome back). From 11pm, £10 

Chow Down free winter party @ Soup Kitchen, 3 Dec

For the post-Christmas shopping skint among you look no further than a generous free party from the Chow Down lot with Iglew (Gobstopper/Boxed) and special guest Rakjay, plus residents Anz, Finn, Fallow, Grizzle and Marcx. Free if you throw down your name on the Facebook event wall and show up before midnight, £5 after. From 11pm

Benga & SGT Pokes @ Antwerp Mansion, 9 Dec 

Party starters The Whispering Digital have teamed up with everyone's favourite tumbledown house to present dubstep pioneer Benga, returning to the decks after an extended break and MC'd by his right-hand man SGT Pokes (Magnetic Man, Skream). Expect a night of borderless grime, bass and dub with support from Stature, Inka and Trakis. From 10pm, £8+
