Don't miss parties this week...

Hidden x Banana Hill presents Awesome Tapes from Africa, Ata Kak & more
Hidden, 14 Oct, 6pm, £18

Tickets are very low for this tremendous night of globetrotting sounds, African house and more from pioneering blog Awesome Tapes from Africa and Ghanaian dance enigma Ata Kak. There's also an afterparty at The White Hotel (11pm-6am), with Ruf Dug and Annabel Fraser leading the charge.

Beyond a Rhythm
Soup Kitchen, 14 Oct, 11pm, £8

Beyond a Rhythm hit up the Soup Kitchen basement with Dutch house DJ and producer Frits Wentink, plus Jay L and local fella (and head of A&R for Leeds' Albion Records) Rikki Humphrey. You can warm up with a free pre-party at Eastern Bloc record shop on Stevenson Square beforehand (from 7pm).

Figure Nacht
Hidden, 14 Oct, 11pm, £18

Expect the best in techno as Berlin's Len Faki brings his Figure Nacht party to Hidden.

High Hoops x Rush Hour Records with Hunee B2B Antal & more
Mantra Warehouse, 15 Oct, 10pm, £22.50

Rush Hour boss Antal goes back to back with Hunee in a monster night at Mantra Warehouse, as we've come to expect from the venue. Also on the bill are Soichi Terada (live), well-received at this year's Dimensions, Dekmantel and Sonar festivals; the galactic, analogue sounds of Interstellar Funk, and another Rush Hour member, Robert Bergman – plus residents from Stamp the Wax magazine and more. There's also an in-store at Eastern Bloc beforehand with Antal, Interstellar Funk and others, from 6pm.

Eton Messy
Hidden, 15 Oct, 10pm, £12.50

The popular blog and label comes to life in human form at Hidden, with Bristol duo Icarus and wunderkind Apres in tow.

HomoElectric with Alinka and Shaun J Wright
Antwerp Mansion, 15 Oct, 10pm, £12

Onetime Hercules & Love Affair vocalist, Chicago's Shaun J. Wright has more recently been working with sonic partner Alinka; together they've been putting out seriously jacking work on labels including Crosstown Rebels and Wright's own imprint, TWIRL! This'll be a sweaty one.

Surgeon live
Gorilla, 15 Oct, 11pm, £12

One of the most appropriately named DJs in the game, Surgeon brings his precise, blade-edged techno to the live room of Gorilla. Should be an intense one.

Less Effect presents Horsepower Productions and Karma
Soup Kitchen, 20 Oct, 11pm, £6

Top Liverpool promoters Less Effect introduce themselves to Manchester with an intimate party in Soup basement, led by Horsepower Productions' Matt HP and Si-Dee (playing a UK garage set) and Benny III (on dubstep duties).

Kowton
Soup Kitchen, 29 Oct, 11pm, £10

Since rising to prominence with Bristol-based crew Livity Sound, Joe Cowton – aka Kowton – has dovetailed his wide-ranging sonic explorations into a focused debut LP, Utility. He brings his trademark spartan rhythms embellished with colour and melody to Manchester this October, supported by Boomkat's Conor Thomas and Utrecht's A Made Up Sound.

Percolate's 4th birthday
Hidden, 19 Nov, 10pm, from £15

According to those ambitious bods at Percolate, 'the only thing better than a Jeremy Underground set is a Jeremy Underground all night long set' – so they've roped in the rare-house digger to play for seven full hours at their fourth birthday party. As you do.
