The festive season gets an injection of the carnivalesque as a fundraiser party from Audio Farm brings live jam bands and circus performers to Islington Mill, while Back to Basics alum Laura Jones headlines The White Hotel and Denis Sulta comes to Hidden.

As always, we recommend you start your weekend with a session at Eastern Bloc Records on Stevenson Square. On Friday they've got a triple hitter of live local talent headed up by leftfield Manc duo Space Afrika, joined by DNCN and Nymad (from 6pm, free). On Saturday it's a Pooku Sounds showcase with Flux Groove, Jack Burling, JJ Mowbray and Zweizig all on duty in store from 4pm – also free. 

Banana Hill with Brotherhood Sound System and Cervo @ Soup Kitchen, 24 Nov 

Global sound importers Banana Hill say goodbye to 2016 with a Christmas gift for you all: a free party, god bless them. They've got George from Leeds' Brotherhood Sound System over, Taurtollo and of course, the Hill's own Cervo on the decks. To get in free, grab a guestlist ticket here or add your name to the Facebook event wall. From 11pm, free before midnight, £4 after 

Cottonopolis's 1st Birthday ft. Mr Scruff @ Cottonopolis, 24 Nov 

Northern Quarter sushi, sake and social hotspot Cottonopolis celebrates its first birthday, enlisting Manc stalwart and beloved beat-provider Mr Scruff, who'll be manning the decks with his celebrated upbeat skills. The guestlist is currently full but keep an eye on Cottonopolis's Twitter for any final ticket releases. 

Crack the Whip presents Laura Jones @ The White Hotel, 25 Nov 

Having made her name with Leeds club night Back to Basics, Laura Jones has since worked with Circo Loco and Fabric and as such is more than qualified to lead Crack the Whip's final headliner party of the year, following on from recent guests Alex Arnout and Adam Shelton. If the sound is as tasty as the poster you're in for a good 'un. From 11pm, £10 

Audio Farm presents Green Paw Project Malawi fundraiser @ Islington Mill, 25 Nov 

Nowhere does all-night parties quite like Islington Mill, and tonight the Audio Farm Festival are taking over the club, gallery and outdoor spaces with eight hours of house and techno, live electronic, funk and jam bands, and circus performers with fire shows. Plus: a gong bath. Omm. All proceeds go towards Malawi animal welfare charity the Green Paw Project. Find out more here. From 6pm, £7 for 6-9pm (gong bath, acoustic music, environmental/animal welfare talks, food); £10 for 9pm-5am (night party); £15 for both 

Sulta Selects @ Hidden, 26 Nov 

Dennis Sulta bring his Sulta Selects tour to Hidden with house music's hottest prospects, including Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and Adesse Versions, plus Martin from Loose Cuts.
