Don't-miss parties this week:

Sat 9 Jul

Proper Sound – Equinox
The Old Red Bus Station, 5pm, £8

The Proper Sound crew are going biiig, taking over three rooms at the Old Red Bus Station with DJs, performers and themed decor (it wouldn't be a summer party without it). Rage for just shy of 12 hours to the gnarliest in dancehall, grime, UK garage and everything in between; write off yer Sunday.

Cocoon in the Park
Temple Newsam, 10am, £47.50

Some of the biggest names in dance take to the lovely grounds of Temple Newsam this weekend, as Brit crowdpleaser Eats Everything, German behemoth Sven Väth and ultra special guest Green Velvet (yeees!) play the eighth annual Cocoon festival. No need for the usual clashfinder stress, as it all takes place on one stage with visuals and FX. Easy.

Albion with Francesco del Garda
Wire, 11pm, £8

Italian minimal house head Francesco del Garda is joined by the fabulously named Peter Glasspool (London) for an intimate night in Wire; the ideal salve if you've been going at it all day in the park for Cocoon. Poster is mint too.

Amp Fiddler
The HiFi Club, 9pm, £10

Hailing from Detroit, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Joseph Fiddler is best known for his work with George Clinton's Parliament and Funkadelic projects, though he's also worked with Was (Not Was) and the sadly departed Prince (sniff). His own material covers funk, soul and electronica, and his rowdy live shows are pretty essential – catch him tonight, presented by Leeds' KMAH Radio.

Limit launch party
with Marquis Hawkes, Elliot Adamson & more
Wire, 6 Aug, 11pm, £6/£8/£10

Huddersfield night Limit has appeared at Wire over the years, but now sets up in Leeds properly with a top launch party lineup. Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and Aus affiliated artist Marquis Hawkes – who's more recently found a home on Fabric's Houndstooth imprint – takes the lead, with Newcastle up-and-comer Elliot Adamson supporting. Leeds' own Gas House Kids and Limit's DJs finish things off. Give 'em a proper welcome.

The Garden Party part 3
with Dusky, Alan Fitzpatrick, Denis Sulta & more
The Faversham, 28 Aug, 12pm (afterparty at Wire, 10pm), £20/£25

Leeds' homegrown Garden Party festival heads back to its roots, The Faversham, for a final blowout of the summer. Sultry house duo Dusky headline, with Drumcode records' Alan Fitzpatrick and Glasgow's Denis Sulta in support. As the Fav winds down at 11pm, the party continues at Wire (10pm-4am).

Festival watch

Last chance to nab tickets for Farr Festival (14-16 Jul); down to 150 weekend passes and fewer than 100 day tickets.

Get your skates on for bluedot festival (22-24 Jul), too: art by Brian Eno, a headline set from Underworld, and Ben UFO, Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve and more all spinning in a space observatory. Ridic.

An earlier version of this column erroneously listed a Selective Hearing night at Wire on 8 Jul; we apologise for the error.
