Death Disco: XXXmas Mayhem

The Arches Burns into a Zombie Nation just in time for the holidays

Feature by Anna Seale | 08 Dec 2010

Glaswegian electro house DJ Burns is receiving rave notices both here and Stateside following a triumphant tour there with Deadmau5 last year. Combining sound hardware from the seventies and eighties with modern music software and samples, experimentation and serious fun are the name of the game. He's Calvin Harris's tour DJ of choice and has remixed everyone from the Black-Eyed Peas to Wolfmother. Hot stuff indeed.

Speaking of Scots with friends in cool places, Unicorn Kid has been rubbing shoulders with the eternally cool Pet Shop Boys, remixing their track Did You See Me Coming and supporting them on recent live dates. He's also responsible for a delightful take on Gorillaz track Superfast Jellyfish and comes here ahead of a rumoured full-length album release in 2011.

That German DJ and producer Splank! is a card, isn't he? What with those silly wigs and freaky remixes of music from Commodore 64 video games and a colourful reimagining of the notion of idm. His techno/electro project Zombie Nation's first release was the awesome Kernkraft 4000 which troubled the top of the charts in the UK and Europe and was followed by the incendiary album Zombielicious in 2009. As for idm? Well, take a selection of sounds contributed by fans and throw them all together in a mix called Minds of Many. It's 'Internet Democratic Music' dontcha know? If the set is anything like the one he played here last year we're all in for an extra special early Christmas present.

Advance notice is being served of the appearance in 2011 of Pnau (pronounced 'pah-now'). The Australian duo (Pete Mayes and Nick Littlemore) have earned the respect of their peers and a loyal fanbase by consistently producing simple yet intelligent hooks and full sounds joined with awesome imagery. We can't wait.
