Scottish Book Trust unveils Journeys project

The Scottish Book Trust and National Theatre of Scotland have launched a call for submissions for Journeys, a new project exploring the various voyages, excursions and trips taken by people across the country.

Writers are invited to submit non-fiction of between 500-1000 words on their most memorable journey, with a book of the best submissions to be published during Book Week Scotland 2015 in November. Short stories, poems, short plays and song lyrics are all eligible for the project – read the submissions so far here.

Introducing the project, Marc Lambert, Director of Scottish Book Trust, said: “We know that Scots like to travel and always have. The resulting book will no doubt assemble a fascinating picture of many different journeys taken by the people of Scotland, and the lasting effects those experiences have had on their lives.”

As part of the project, the Trust will host a series of writing workshops across the country in April and May, led by authors including Jenni Fagan and Linda Cracknell, while the NTS will stage performances based on some of the best submissions to the project.

Entries for the Journeys project close on 30 June; get full details and learn more about the project here.
