Africa in Motion 2009

The UK’s largest African Film Festival is now in its 4th year. It launches to life on the 22 Oct with My Secret Sky, a beautifully shot tale of two South African orphans who embark on a trip to the city in order to fulfil their dead mother’s dream. It’s a heart-warming story with memorable performances from the two young leads who themselves are from impoverished backgrounds. Also recommended is La Maison Jaune about a family living in the remote Aures Mountains in Algeria. This award-winning film will be shown on the 27 Oct and followed by a Q&A with its director Amor Hakkar. And if you missed Johnny Mad Dog at this year’s Glasgow Film Festival you can see it again here, applauded for its powerful depiction of Liberian child soldiers.
