Future Cinema Presents All Tomorrow's Parties @ HMV Picture House, 24 June

Posted by Chris Buckle, Mon 25 May 2009

Ever drunkenly pumped coins into a 2p machine to the sound of Deerhunter playing Butlins, or spotted Steve Albini fleecing fans at poker while watching Eurovision? Have you ever survived a late-night set by The Jesus Lizard, only to enjoy a beachfront cream tea the next morning? Then you must’ve missed All Tomorrow's Parties last month. Justly revered by the discerning music fan, ATP’s growing cult brand now boasts a record label, three domestic festivals a year and international versions as far afield as Australia.

Now, this year's Edinburgh Film Festival will host ATP’s celluloid debut and, unsurprisingly, it sounds awesome. Co-director Jonathan Caouette’s (Tarnation) return to feature-length documentary will excite cinephiles, while everyone else can salivate over the music, including footage of Battles, Sonic Youth and Portishead. among others. But the premiere’s real draw is its mysterious billing as a "unique live cinema event", with Future Cinema promising a Butlins-themed facelift and a 360-degree musical experience inside the HMV Picture House, complete with interactive performances and the presence of some very special surprise guests. Their identities are firmly under wraps for now, but, like the low-stakes 2p machines, it’s a pretty safe bet you won’t be disappointed.
